In the same decade of Fats and Elvis and Jerry Lee - a boy named Laurie topped the music world with a song that has huge implications for your business today.
“He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands” climbed to the very top of the Top 40 in the spring of 1958 - and it stayed there for 4 weeks.
Laurie London was 13 at the time - and went on to complete his short music career in total obscurity without ever having another hit. How could he and this 1950’s song possibly have anything to do with your business?
To answer that, we have to ask you if you know about two rather insignificant products from a small start-up in Cupertino called Apple Computer, Inc.
One is the IPhone and the other is the IPod Touch. You’re likely to have seen (and salivated over) the IPhone because your boss or girlfriend or great aunt has one.
You’re less likely to know about the IPod Touch. It looks just like the IPhone, but it can’t make calls. What?! What good is that?
You see, both of these gizmos access the Internet from the palm of your hand - and not on a little itsy-bitsy, teenie-weenie, yellow polka dot….. (sorry got carried away) screen.
Now, finally, from your phone, you can actually see what’s on the screen - and believe me, the competition is hurriedly trying to catch up with these new Apple toys.
Now, Apple Insider’ Slash Lane reports in “Google IPhone Usage Shocks Search Giant“ some information that will make even the most complacent business owner or corporate executive pause:
“Google on Wednesday said it has seen 50 times more search requests coming from Apple iPhones than any other mobile handset — a revelation so astonishing that the company originally suspected it had made an error culling its own data.”
You must click over and read this article. The results were no mistake. The only mistake will be if you read this and continue to ignore the Laurie London Strategy.
IPhone owners are actually out there searching the Internet - in numbers geometrically beyond those of their competitors. They’re searching because it’s easy and because they can actually get to what they are looking for.
If they find a movie, they can actually watch it. If they find an audio program, they can simply listen to it. If they find an article they won’t go blind trying to read it.
For the past 5 years or so, you’ve had untold vast amounts of information at your fingertips by way of your laptop. Now you have it in the palm of your hand. The article above links to an expert who predicts that mobile Internet searches will overtake computer Internet searches in the next few years. Wow.
Laurie London was right - he was just 50 years ahead of his time. Your customer now has the “whole world in his hands.” And, he’s out there searching. Will he find you?

Props for linking my childhood Sunday School experiences with modern technology. I figured I was still two books and a buggy with horses away from bridging that gap…
Tangents aside, your blog is prophetic. And probably true. Now if only I could get rid of my apple gear, I might actually get some writing done.
